Local Law Enforcement
Roughly 50 vehicles have been covered with what seems to be human bodily fluid in the Germany's city of Hanau in proximity to Frankfurt, according to authorities.
Automobiles, walls and postboxes were defaced, sometimes with prohibited symbols, they reported in a statement.
Officers say they were alerted late on Wednesday evening, when a individual noticed that a vehicle in the Lamboy area of Hanau had been covered with a reddish fluid.
The liquid had been applied in the shape of a banned symbol, they reported.
Law enforcement then located many other marked vehicles and residential walls in the adjacent neighborhood.
Swastikas are prohibited in Germany under regulations prohibiting the public exhibition of Nazi-era symbols.
Officials state early analysis suggest the fluid was most likely blood from a person.
"At present there remains no clue as to its origin; officials are presently not informed of any harm in association with the event," they stated.
Municipal representatives stated they were trying "to unravel the incident" and have appealed to the community for information.
A senior political figure stated the incident left him stunned and had to be solved quickly.
"This incident affects the core of Hanau and revives the pain of the far-right attack five years ago," he posted on social media, mentioning the killing of nine individuals by a assailant aiming at individuals of immigrant origin in 2020.
